The Two Most Trusted And Time Tested Swing Trading Indicators

By Creztor Tessel

The trend is your friend; this is a very common phrase that is used frequently in the trading world. However, some things are easier said than done. Every trader knows the trend is his friend, but which swing trading indicators should one use to take advantage of the trend? When used properly, trading indicators can make entry and exit of trades easy, but the difficult is in knowing which indicator you should use. As technology has advanced over the years, there has been a huge increase in the number and kind of indicators traders have available. To get a head start on your path to trading successfully, one needs to know which indicators are worth your time and which ones should be ignored. Some of the most popular trading indicators are MACD, Stochastics, Moving Averages and trend lines.

Moving averages are very popular in the trading world. One of the reasons for this is that they are possibly the oldest and first kind of indicators used by traders. Thanks to this they have gained a reputation of being the most widely used and trusted kind of indicator. Many professional stock traders around the world use moving averages to determine trend in the markets. There are several kinds of moving averages; simple, exponential, weighted and many more. Despite the kind of moving average, these indicators are frequently used to spot the trend and determine areas of support and resistance. A trader armed with this kind of information can fine tune their entry and exit increasing their returns.

Building upon the power of moving averages, the MACD is another very commonly used and highly valued trading indicator. The MACD is based on two moving averages and has multiple uses. This single indicator can be used to determine the trend of a market, spot areas of divergence and also be used to generate entry and exit signals for trades. There probably isn’t any other indicator that is as versatile and unique as the MACD. The MACD is a momentum indicator and as such is also used to identify areas where markets may be approaching their limit and readying for a pull back. It is no wonder that the MACD is so widely used by professional and corporate traders around the world.

These are just two of the many swing trading indicators that traders have at their dispose. If you are just starting out then it would be advised that you stick to indicators that are well known, trusted and widely used by the trading community and successful traders. Moving averages and the MACD are just two indicators that fall into this category of being proven and reliable. When used properly, moving averages offer any trader the ability to identify the trend and areas of support and resistance at a glance. MACD goes one step further and allows insight into momentum of the market which gives you the advantage of knowing when the market may be running out of steam. These two trading indicators have stood the test of time and should be a trading tool for any new trader.

Scientists analyse effects of global warming, atmospheric ozone on crops

Monday, July 28, 2014

A research team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Colorado State University of the US and the University of Sheffield of the UK has analysed effects of global warming and ozone pollution over 2000–2050 on the worldwide production of wheat, rice, maize and soybean. The study was published in journal Nature Climate Change yesterday.

The scientists found reduction of crop yields by 2050 exceeded 10% of 2000 levels, substantially decreasing food security, in all cases examined. Several scenarios were considered because of uncertainty of future levels of ozone pollution. They estimated by 2050, increasing population and changing diet would increase world food needs by 50 percent. As coauthor Colette Heald told The Huffington Post, “The climate projections are quite consistent […] the future of ozone pollution is very different […] leading to either offsetting or reinforcing effects [of climate change] on crops”.By 2050, undernourishment would increase by either 49 percent or by 27 percent, depending on the scenario.

The study focuses on ozone–temperature covariation: ground-level ozone increases with temperatures.Heald said although temperature and ozone are separately known to impact crop yields, “nobody has looked at these together”.Depending on region and crops, the yields may be primarily sensitive to ozone —in the case of wheat— or heat —in the case of maize— alone, providing a local estimation of relative benefits of climate change adaptation versus ozone regulation.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture notes, “Ground-level ozone causes more damage to plants than all other air pollutants combined”, highlighting the importance of air quality for agriculture. Results of NCLAN studies, published in a paper by AS Heagle in 1989, show dicot species, such as soybean, cotton, and peanut, lose more yield from ozone than do monocot species such as sorghum, field corn, and winter wheat. The researchers found that ozone pollution caused 46 percent of previously heat-attributed damage to soybean crops.

The model does not include the effect of rising carbon dioxide concentration, which has complex and potentially offsetting impacts on global food supply. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says some crops may have higher yields with increased levels of carbon dioxide. However, global warming also increases probability of extreme crops-damaging weather events such as floods, droughts, and extreme temperatures. Climate change affects distribution of weeds, pests, and diseases.Heald noted the findings show pollution reduction is also important. “An air-quality cleanup would improve crop yields […] Ozone is something that we understand the causes of, and the steps that need to be taken to improve air quality.”

As Heald told The Huffington Post, US surface ozone has dropped partly due to the Clean Air Act. “Despite an increase in vehicle miles driven and energy consumption, surface ozone has declined by 25 percent on average across the U.S. from 1980 to 2012 […] However, the future of ozone air quality in the U.S. and around the world will depend on local emissions, the use of pollution control technology, regulations, and air quality policy.”

The study was supported by the Croucher Foundation, US National Science Foundation, and US National Park Service.

6.7 magnitude quake shakes Hawaii

Sunday, October 15, 2006

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake shook the Hawaiian islands at 17:07:49 UTC (07:07:49 local time) October 15, 2006. The quake, centered approximately 6 miles southwest of Puak? on the west side of Hawai`i Island (the Big Island), was felt throughout the entire state, causing a statewide power outage.

No tsunami warning was issued as a result of the quake; however, a tsunami measuring around 0.1 meters (four inches) was recorded. There were 50 aftershocks reported after the quake, the strongest being a 5.8 tremor reported at about 17:14 UTC (7:14 a.m. local time).

There were no fatalities reported and only scattered reports of minor injuries.

Electric power was lost statewide shortly after the quake. As of about 8:00 p.m. HST, power was restored to all the neighbor islands, but Hawaiian Electric personnel still had work to go on Oahu, the island with the highest population. Power was eventually restored to most areas of Oahu by midnight.

Structural damage occurred at Kona Hospital, where ceiling tiles fell and electricity was lost, forcing an evacuation of patients to Hilo Medical Center on the other side of the island. Damage was also reported at the Honokaa Long-term Care Facility and the Royal Kona Resort.

Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle, who was in Kona at the time of the earthquake, issued an emergency declaration for the entire state of Hawaii at about 11:00 a.m. local time (2300 UTC Sunday).

Air service in Hawaii was temporarily suspended shortly after the quake as airports were forced to operate on emergency power. The power outage caused delays to incoming and outgoing flights, as TSA agents had to conduct manual searches of all bags. Airlines have canceled numerous flights scheduled to depart Honolulu International Airport Sunday evening.

Communication links are problematic. Most radio stations lost power and stopped broadcasting immediately after the quake. (Metroblogging Hawaii) Honolulu radio station KSSK, operating on emergency generators, became a central information source for Oahu residents. A landslide has blocked at least one major highway from a section of a cliff at Kealakekua Bay.

USGS Volcano Observatory equipment has not been significantly damaged. Monitoring stations report “no significant changes in the past 24 hours” of the eruption of the K?lauea volcano.

According to USGS records, this earthquake is the fourth largest Hawaiian earthquake in the last 100 years. Previous earthquakes include a magnitude 7.2 quake in 1975, a magnitude 6.9 quake in 1951, and a magnitude 6.8 quake in 1938. The last magnitude 6.7 quake was in 1983.

Auckland City Council acts to remove suspect chemicals in pre-school’s soil

Saturday, April 1, 2006

Chemicals, which the Auckland City Council said are a suspected cause of cancer and are considered toxic, have been found in soil at a children’s playcentre in Auckland. The contamination was found at the Auckland Central Playcentre in Freemans Bay, and the Council will now spend $100,000 removing the top 50 cm (about 20 in) of soil at the playcentre, doing landscaping and replacing playground equipment.

The presence of “polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, including benzo-a-pyrene,” was suspected at the school playground and was confirmed by a chemical analysis on Tuesday. The chemicals may cause temporary digestive and respiratory distress, as well as irritation of the eyes and skin. The levels of benzo-a-pyrene found were between 0.06 and 4.82 milligrams per kilogram of soil at surface level, according to the Ministry of Education. A potential risk is present at levels above 3.5 mg.

Woman finds human finger in bowl of chili at Wendy’s restaurant

Thursday, March 24, 2005

San Jose, California — A woman eating a bowl of chili at a Wendy’s restaurant bit into a chewy bit that turned out to be a human finger. She immediately spat it out, warned other patrons to stop eating, and upon recognizing the object as a finger, vomited.

“I’m more of a Carl’s Jr. person,” the 39-year-old Las Vegas woman, Anna Ayala, told Knight Ridder. She said this incident was her first visit to a Wendy’s restaurant. Ayala described how she found the finger, “Suddenly something crunchy was in my mouth,” she continued, “and I spit it out.”

According to Devina Cordero, 20, after Ayala found the finger, she ran up to her and Cordero’s boyfriend and said, “Don’t eat it! Look, there’s a human finger in our chili.”

“We went up to the counter and they told us it was a vegetable,” Cordero continued. “The people from Wendy’s were poking it with a spoon.”

The restaurant is located at 1405 Monterey Highway, just south of downtown San Jose.

Wikinews reporter David Vasquez drove his car up to the drive-thru menu and found that chili was still on the menu, at a price of US$1.19 for a small serving. He also witnessed workers unloading supplies from a semi-trailer truck in the restaurant’s parking lot, and carting them into the back door of the establishment.

According to Ben Gale, director of environmental health for Santa Clara County, the finger did not come from any of the employees at the restaurant. “We asked everybody to show us they have 10 fingers and everything is OK there,” he said. The found portion of the finger likely belonged to a woman because of its long and manicured fingernail, also found in the food.

Officials seized the food supply at the restaurant and are tracing it back to the manufacturer, where they believe the finger may have gotten mixed in with the raw ingredients used to prepare the chili. The restaurant’s operators were later permitted to re-open after preparing new chili prepared from fresh ingredients.

As this story was filed, there was no mention of the incident on the Wendy’s corporate web site. Wendy’s issued a statement through a spokesman.

“Food safety is of utmost importance to us,” said Wendy’s spokesman Joe Desmond. He referred to the incident as an “unsubstantiated claim.”

“We are cooperating fully with the local police and health departments with their investigation. It’s important not to jump to conclusions. Here at Wendy’s we plan to do right by our customers,” Desmond said.

According to county health officials, the unfortunate woman who bit into the finger is doing fine, despite her initial reaction. Officials also noted that the finger would have been cooked at a high enough temperature to destroy any viruses.

The Santa Clara county medical examiner reported that the finger had a solid fingerprint, although investigators did not say if a search of fingerprint databases would be performed to find the owner of the finger.

Scientists report chemotherapy cocktail may cause adult women to grow new egg cells

Wednesday, December 7, 2016

Chemotherapy is usually associated with a collection of side effects ranging from digestive problems to hair loss, but a study published this week in Human Reproduction demonstrated that female cancer patients may find they have something in common with much younger women in one specific area — their ovaries.

Scientists from the University of Edinburgh examined donated ovarian tissue from fourteen female cancer patients, most of whom had Hodgkin lymphoma, and compared it to tissue from healthy women. They found the samples from women who had been treated with a specific chemotherapeutic regimen known as ABVD not only contained greater numbers of dormant ova — egg cells — than those from women treated with harsher regimens but also more than samples from healthy women. ABVD is named for combining several drugs known as adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine.

These reproductive cells were not merely more plentiful in ABVD patients. They also appeared immature, “new” in the words of lead researcher Evelyn Telfer. This challenges the conventional belief that girls are born with all the ova they will ever have and the numbers can only go down as the cells are either used up by the reproductive cycle or succumb to damage or natural aging. However, further research is needed to confirm this. The study covered relatively few patients by scientific standards, and David Albertini of the Center for Human Reproduction in New York has suggested the cells may not actually be freshly grown. Instead, they may have always been there and were merely rendered more detectable by ABVD treatment.

The ability to grow new egg cells may have significant implications for women in Western societies, many of whom postpone childbearing to establish careers, sometimes into their late thirties or forties. However, Telfer warns against making use of these findings too soon: “There’s so much we don’t know about the ovary. We have to be very cautious about jumping to clinical applications.”

The experiments had been discussed earlier this year at the annual conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology.

Nursing Home Abuse: A National Tragedy On The Rise

byalex

A recent congressional study found that nearly one-third of all U.S. nursing homes have been cited for some form of abuse. Among some of the incidents were residents who had been kicked by staff members. Other examples were residents who had been punched or choked. Often residents are abused by staff who is angered that the patients need extra care. Such was the case with Helen Love who suffered broken bones and was choked by a nurse’s assistant. The assistant was upset that Love had soiled herself. The ensuring investigation found that three other employees in that nursing home facility had abuse convictions. Curbing nursing home abuse in Pittsburgh means that all such cases should be addressed by a nursing home abuse attorney.

The congressional report also noted that nursing home abuse is on the rise, including physical, sexual, and verbal abuse. Often the abuse cases are serious enough to cause serious harm, injury, or even death to the patient. In addition, these are the nursing home abuse cases that are actually reported, with investigators finding that many occurrences go unreported.

These statistics are alarming. The fact is, however, that even one case of nursing home abuse against an elderly or infirm person is one case too many. When a relative needs nursing home care, the family trusts that doctors, nurses, attendants, and aides are going to do everything possible to care for that relative in a compassionate and competent fashion. Families put a great deal of consideration into choosing which Pittsburgh nursing home facility can best care for their loved one. The most important thing that a family can investigate is whether there have been any reported cases of nursing home abuse. They can also tour the nursing home several times, arriving at different times of the day. This affords the opportunity to see what the residents are eating, what activities they are engaged in, and whether or not the family notices any situations where residents are not being treated as they should be.

Despite the most diligent of efforts, however, the statistics suggest that even after close scrutiny of a nursing home facility, abuse can occur, and Pittsburgh, unfortunately, isn’t immune. Do not assume that your relative will always speak up if abuse is occurring. Often the elderly and infirm are either unwilling to complain or unable to articulate what is happening to them. Therefore, it is important to be attentive to any possible signs of abuse. Some of these signs could be unexplained cuts, bruises, or bleeding; unexplained weight gain/loss; poor hygiene; and/or infection. There are other signs unrelated to the patient’s physical person, such as the disappearance of personal property or unusual financial transactions from the patient’s bank account. If any of these signs are noticed, discuss them with the director of the facility. If questions are not answered satisfactorily, contact a nursing home abuse attorney. A Pittsburgh area nursing home abuse attorney can access the needed medical and personnel records to determine if an abuse case exists and, if necessary, can assist the family in filing a suit against the nursing home facility.
