Israel to build new settlements in West Bank

Sunday, March 13, 2011

Israel announced Sunday that it plans to build several hundred new housing facilities in the occupied West Bank, days after several Israelis were killed in an attack on Friday.

According to officials, a meeting on Saturday of a government committee resulted in the decision to build up to 500 new housing units, all within existing settlements. The new buildings are to be constructed in areas that Israel expects to retain control of in the event of any potential peace accord with Palestine.

A Palestinian spokesperson said that Israel’s decision was “wrong and unacceptable and will only create problems.” The building of settlements by Israel is widely criticized; in February fourteen of the fifteen United Nations Security Council members, with the US the only exception, supported a resolution that would demand Israel stop further construction.

The announcement of the new buildings came days after five Israelis were stabbed to death on Friday night, in an attack suspected to be of Palestinian origin. In response to the attack, residents of the area had asked the Israeli government to build new housing facilities.

The attacks were referenced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said in a statement that he had “noticed that several countries that always hasten to the U.N. Security Council in order to condemn Israel, the state of the Jews, for planning a house in some locality, or for laying some tiles somewhere, have been dilatory in sharply condemning the murder of Jewish infants.”

China: ‘the Dalai Lama is scheming to take the Beijing Olympics hostage’

Monday, March 24, 2008

The government of China has claimed that the Dalai Lama is cooperating with Islamic extremists as part of a plot to bring the country into crises before the Olympic Games, which are due to be half in Beijing this Summer. The official newspaper of the government of China claimed that “the Dalai Lama is scheming to take the Beijing Olympics hostage to force the Chinese government to make concessions to Tibet independence.”

This move comes after Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, vowed to step down from his position if things “get out of control” in Tibet, where violent demonstrations against China have killed anywhere from 13 to 100 people.

The protests, which began in Lhasa, have since spread to neighboring provinces. In Aba, Sichuan, one witness reported 17 deaths. “Earlier today, the whole town was teeming with police and soldiers,” he said. “All the shops have been closed. There are no arrests that I know of … People are anticipating that something big is going to happen.” Elsewhere in Sichuan, thousands of Tibetans turned out in the streets of Seda, according to the Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy.

The international community has repeatedly urged China to use restraint in dealing with protesters, and to start talks with the Dalai Lama. United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Monday, “We have really urged the Chinese over several years to find a way to talk with the Dalai Lama, who is a figure of authority, who is not a separatist, and to find a way to engage him and bring his moral weight to a more sustainable and better solution of the Tibet issue.”

The Harm Of Diet Before Running

Submitted by: Steve Clis

The clever athletes adopted a countermeasure that they usually did exercises slowly few weeks before the race. Then, when his coach started to make him have a strict training, he had already been very strong and could do any exercise at any time.

This was especially true if the runners had meals as the normal recipe for athletes all the time. The most of nutrition principles in the 14th chapter were appropriate for young runners. But many young people felt difficult to adopt these principles perseveringly. They always ate some snacks such as potato chips, soft drinks salty beef and so on, and they usually did not eat breakfast when they were in a hurry in the morning. If you were a young athlete, you should avoid developing this habit. Though the salty beef would add your warmth, they almost had no nutrition. You would had no calories when you need if you did not eat breakfast. Nutritionists said that a third of a person’s calories should be absorbed in the morning.

If you were a girl, for the sake of making up the lost iron during the menstruation, it was important to eat some foods which contained high iron. If you wanted to absorb the nutrients, a convenient was to eat more livers and vegetables of which leaves were dark green. It was also very significant for girls to adhere to proper eating habits. In the book “Nutrition and Athletes” Richard and Joseph said that, men’s development had already reach to the healthiest level when they were eighteen or early twenties. Women’s would be the peak when they were adolescence and 15 or 16 years old. Starting from this peak age, the health status would continue to decline unless you maintained through proper exercise and diet.

Everyman thought that it was useless for adult runners to have the diet a few hours before the race. There was still some doubt for young athletes. Some authorities said that children whose age was fifteen and under fifteen years old should not eat food four hours before the game. Dr. Robert Craig in Florida. was one of the people who did not agree with this idea. He had volunteered to be a doctor for the school team, Pope, Werner and youth baseball team all the time. He recently wrote that like all the parents knew, these young people seemed to eat constantly. Many of them were at puberty. If we did not let them eat the food four hours before the game, my impression was that they would begin to feel extreme fatigue or lose the coordination of organ at the second half of the race. For these young people, it was too long not to eat food in six hours.

I thought many circumstances varied from person to person. It would probably a reliable sign that a young athlete would be weak and tired if he did not eat food in four hours. This indicated that he needed to eat food often, as for the circumstances in the running, after testing in person, you would get the answer even you did not find in the most authoritative medical literature.

Cisco sues Apple for iPhone trademark

Friday, January 12, 2007

The iPhone only made its appearance as a prototype and there have been controversies aroused.

The dispute has come up between the manufacturer of the iPhone (which was presented on Wednesday for the first time) — Apple Inc. — and a leader in network and communication systems, based in San Jose — Cisco. The company claims to possess the trademark for iPhone, and moreover, that it sells devices under the same brand through one of its divisions.

This became the reason for Cisco to file a lawsuit against Apple Inc. so that the latter would stop selling the device.

Cisco states that it has received the trademark in 2000, when the company overtook Infogear Technology Corp., which took place in 1996.

The Vice President and general counsel of the company, Mark Chandler, explained that there was no doubt about the excitement of the new device from Apple, but they should not use a trademark, which belongs to Cisco.

The iPhone developed by Cisco is a device which allows users to make phone calls over the voice over Internet protocol (VoIP).

Submitted by: Ethanld Magnus

Internet betting has become one of the greatest sectors on the Internet nowadays. Until around the turn of the century, bookmaking was some thing which was common in the high street, but nearly totally missing web based. Things have evolved though, and the broad percentage of the main players have recently complemented their prosperous high street firms with online betting websites.

One particular company is Betfred. Originally opened up in ’67 by Fred Done, they have now been recognized for over 40 years and have become one of the most accepted brands in the bookmaking industry. They are specifically well known due to the Pr friendly manoeuvres of Fred Done him self, who has for ages been a real character of the betting scene.

As a great Manchester United ally he has allowed his enthusiasm for the team to get the better of his common-sense, producing a list of terrific stories. Firstly, back in the late 1990’s, Fred broke bookmaking tradition by choosing to pay out in advance on outright bets for United to win the league. At the time they were well ahead of 2nd placed Arsenal, but with a few of months of the season still to play, they were inevitably beaten to the championship by the resurgent Greater london club. Cue Betfred needing to pay out a 2nd time on the same market!

An additional significant soccer moment was Fred’s million pound bet with contending bookmaker and Chelsea fan, Victor Chandler. This time Fred bet an awesome million that Man Utd would finish higher than Chelsea in the 04-05 Premier League season. Chelsea claimed the league and Fred lost out again.

Soccer is at the core of betting with Betfred, and they’ve recently established an addition of their exclusive deal with Wembley stadium – home to English football. They now have exclusive rights to run wagering stores within the ground.

All good public relations for Betfred, and possibly this is why they have frequently been able to bring in new customers. The football sponsorship and additional payouts have clearly proved a good way of producing the crucial edge in this extra-aggressive sector.

Brand identification is one thing to bring consumers in, but furthermore Betfred offers a large free bet for new users of its web based gambling website. At this time, this is a free bet to the value of 50. Simply subscribe to Betfred and place a bet with your own money up to 50, once done they will credit your account with a free bet of one more 50. Further advice on this procedure can be found beneath.

The Betfred website is one of the finest internet betting sites. It is plainly presented with quick access to all the key functions and sporting competitions. A good option is that the format of the odds can quickly be changed from the main site, irrespective of if you are signed in. This is ideal for individuals with a preference for decimal odds rather than the more common fractional odds.

I will not hesitate to recommend Betfred. Join currently and you will be in a position to benefit from the Betfred free bet offered. There’s also a chance that you could be the next person to profit from one of Freds premature payouts.

Philippine Foreign Secretary Del Rosario to visit China amid South China Sea territorial dispute

Sunday, July 3, 2011

Philippines Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario is scheduled to visit China from July 7 to 9, raising hopes that a territorial dispute between the two countries may be resolved.

A six-nation dispute has escalated in the sea concerning territorial claims to several islands including the Spratly Islands. The area is thought to be rich in natural gas and oil. Both the Philippines and China wish to have a peaceful resolution to this conflict. “I’ve been invited to Beijing and we’re looking for peaceful means to settle the challenges facing us,” said Del Rosario.

The news comes after the United States and the Philippines began a series of naval exercises last week in the South China Sea, scheduled to last for 11 days. A Philippine military commander stated that the drills are part of an annual series of activities taking place under a defense agreement between the two countries and have nothing to do with the territorial dispute.

The Philippines maintains a close relation with the U.S. as a former territory of the nation.

The drills come at a time when several competing disputes in the South China Sea have begun to intensify. “Since February 25th, we actually have noted as many as nine intrusions of different varieties, but clearly becoming more aggressive and more frequent,” said Del Rosario. Several countries in Asia, including China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia, and Taiwan, have territorial claims in the area spanning the Spratly and Paracel Islands. The region may be rich in oil and gas reserves. The US and Philippines have urged the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to address the conflict.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has argued that the United States would remain neutral regarding the disputes. She has also said that the United States has a “national interest” in freedom of navigation, respect for international law, and unimpeded, lawful commerce in the South China Sea.” Both countries are bound by a 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty.

On June 27, the US Senate unanimously passed a motion condemning “the use of force by naval and maritime security vessels from China in the South China Sea.” China, on the other hand, has stated that it will not use force to resolve disputes in the South China Sea.

An account of the Esperanza Fire from an animal rescuer

Saturday, December 2, 2006

As families fled their homes in the early morning hours on Thursday October 26, there was no warning. The Esperanza Fire southeast of Los Angeles and West of Palm Springs, California, had ballooned under the influence of Santa Ana winds to more than 19,000 acres as of the morning of October 27. No time to get the animals, no time for crates or even a leash. Sadly, owners left behind not only their horses, lamas, donkeys, chickens, rabbits, but also their dogs and cats.

Many of the families who did manage to evacuate their pets found themselves in the parking lot at the Fellowship in the Pass Church Red Cross Shelter where a MuttShack Animal Rescue team caught up with them.

Pam Anderson, Director of the emergency Red Cross shelter said that many people with animals had come and left.

The air was thick with smoke, and ash was raining down on the parking lot where dog owners, not able to take their dogs into the shelter were camping out in pup tents andin their cars.

Those who could afford it checked themselves into pet friendly hotels in nearby towns.

Some were prepared. Jane Garner, a small dog breeder was able to get all her animals out, and had set up her puppy runs alongside her RV in the parking lot. Others were not doing too well, having left home without as much as a leash.

The same scenario played out at the Red Cross shelter at Hemet High School. Animals were being boarded in vans, trailers and cars and small travel crates.

When MuttShack Animal Rescue arrived, a small fracas had sent several dogs off in different directions, running out of the school parking lot down busy streets necessitating an instant rescue response.

The Incident Command for the Esperanza Animals, Ramona Humane Society in San Jacinto welcomed MuttShack‘s offer to help at the shelters.

Ramona Humane Society had recently published a notice in their Newsletter about the newly passed “PETS Act”and warned owners not wait until a major disaster such as an earthquake or fireto prepare. “Be proactive to ensure that your pet will be taken care of.”

MuttShack and PetSmart Charities set up ad hoc facilities for the animals at both shelters.

The Red Cross shelter, run by Madison Burtchaell of the Orange County Red Cross was very accommodating about allowing a small emergency pet shelter adjacent to the School.

Barbara A. Fought of PetSmart Charities, an organization that works with animal welfare organizations and provide assistance in disasters, provided crates and emergency supplies.

MuttShack and Red Cross volunteers, Martin St. John, Tom Hamilton, and Steve Meissner helped assemble the crates to secure a safe environment for evacuated pets.

It was a great relief for evacuees who had camped out in the parking lot to finally leave their vehicles and relax at the shelter, setting up their cots to grab some sorely needed rest.

Firefighters and residents reported loss of wildlife and animals. The Esperanza fire burned 34 homes, consumed 40,000 acres and cost five Firefighters their lives before it was contained four days later on October 30. Firefighting operations cost nearly $10 million.

MuttShack Animal Rescue is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization active in disasters and dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and care of lost or discarded dogs, cats and other animals.
